BARCA WON PRIMERA LIGA 2010/2011

Barcelona have won the Primera Liga title for the third time running after a 1-1 draw at Levante. The result sees them remain 6 points ahead of Real Madrid, who can no longer win the title due to their head to head record with the Catalan giants.
After the title win, manager Pep Guardiola said of his team “Winning the league was been extremely tough, and we are very pleased. We have been tremendous for three quarters of the season, but in the last quarter we have struggled to score goals.”
“If we have experienced a dip in form toward the end of the season, it is because of the inhuman schedule over the last two years. We have barely stopped.”
Top scorer Lionel Messi added, “I’m delighted because it has been a very difficult title to win. We’ve had to work very hard to be champions and more so against a great rival like Real Madrid. Now we have to enjoy it.”
Lionel Messi has, understandably, been a huge part of Barcelona’s success as he became the first ever player to score over 50 goals in a Spanish league season. The record was previously set at 49 many years ago by the great Ferenc Puskas.
The club also set a new league record by winning 16 consecutive matches earlier in the season. Much of this has come down to manager Pep Guardiola, who has only been in charge of the club for three seasons but already won nine trophies.
Guardiola will also have a chance to win a tenth when his Barcelona side take on Manchester United in the Champions League final on May 28th.
If Barcelona do manage to win their second Champions League in three years, they’ll also be given a chance to win two further competitions. They will be entered into the European Super Cup and the Club World Cup if they secure the Champions League trophy, meaning that ultimately, Guardiola’s trophy count could be increased to 12 by the end of the year.
The goalscorer in the club’s draw against Levante was Seydou Keita, and it is unlikely that he’ll score too many more important goals in his career.
After the game, Keita said “What a goal. I dedicate it to my wife, two kids and all of Barcelona’s fans. This is a very important day for the fans. Now we need to prepare for the Champions League final, which will be very important as well and which this club deserves to win.”
Real Madrid are now definitely runners up in the League as well, with it being mathematically impossible for Valencia, in 3rd, to catch up to them.
